Foundation Pro Bono Challenge Chile announced at Morales & Besa

In order to bring justice to the most vulnerable sectors of society, Fundación Pro Bono announded the “Challenge Pro Bono Chile” initiative, a competition aimed at law students across the country. The competition aims to identify university social problems that have access to justice and raise creative solutions such as pro bono (free legal advice). The initiative was officially presented to deans and heads of Discimination of the leading universities of the country by Marcela Fajardo, Executive Director of the Foundation, in order to disseminate the experience of this initiative and encourage participation within the educational community.

Pedro Pablo Gutiérrez, President of the Advisory Board of the Foundation and partner of the firm Jimeno & Gutiérrez Asenjo Waugh described the experience of his firm as a sponsor of one of the winning projects of Pro Bono Challenge 2012. He highlighted both student learning in the field as well as the motivation of lawyers in the firm in charge of the initiative.

This year, the winning projects will have the opportunity to realize their pro bono initiative, with the support of Pro Bono Foundation and the collaboration of prestigious law firms. The event was attended by Carmen Dominguez S., Catholic University of Chile, Manuel Muñoz, Bernardo O’Higgins University, Denise Lara, University Finis Terrae, Catalina Donoso, Adolfo Ibáñez University, Ester Valenzuela, of the Universidad Diego Portales. “Challenge Pro Bono Chile” looks to continue promoting projects that aim to ensure the effective protection of the rights of individuals, sectors or groups in vulnerable situations, according to the principles and values ​​of the practice pro bono. In this sense, projects can be developed through: care of individual cases or collective rights or dissemination of citizen empowerment, legal participation in social issues and public policies, among others.
