Our partner Guillermo Morales played a prominent role at the “Latin Lawyer Live Capital Markets” conference held in São Paulo, Brazil on November 27th. In this opportunity, the most important actors in the sector in Latin America, met. The event was chaired by Mattos Filho and Shearman & Sterling and was focused around the Latin American capital markets, but especially in the Brazilian.

More than 20 experts from different countries participated. Their interventions were focused on the opportunities, challenges and risks of investment in the different countries of the region, such as the uncertainty and repercussions of the recent Brazilian presidential and legislative elections, and their impact on the local and regional market, on the development of the venture capital industry and the Fintech, and in the efforts for the integration of regional capital markets.

Our partner participated in the panel “Location, location, location: how to choose a listing venue“. The experts analyzed the factors that affect the choice of the listing venue by Latin American issuing companies that seek to raise capital. The panel evaluated the pros and cons of listing a company exclusively in their local stock exchange and/or on other stock exchanges in different jurisdictions such as the New York Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, the London Stock Exchange or specialized stock markets such as the Oslo Stock Exchange. Guillermo Morales outlined the peculiarities of the Chilean market and its correlation in the trend among Chilean issuing companies to abandon foreign stock exchanges and list their shares only in the local stock exchange
