IJGlobal Awards 2016: Morales & Besa, the Latin American Law Firm was the most awarded for Financing Operations Projects

Morales & Besa advised on 3 of the 9 winning projects of the “Deal of the Year 2016” awards from IJGlobal, one of the most prestigious publications on project financing, becoming the Latin American law firm involved in most award-winning financing transaction. In addition, Morales & Besa was among the 4 Latin American firms nominated for firm of the year.

During the ceremony held in New York on March 15, the winning projects in which Morales & Besa took part as counsel were: “Latin America Airport Deal of the Year”: Expansion of Santiago Airport; “Latin America Solar Deal of the Year”: “El Pelícano” Solar Plant; and “Latin America Wind Deal of the Year”: “Cabo Leones” wind farm.

“Latin America Airport Deal of the Year”: Expansion of Santiago Airport

Morales & Besa, led by partner Carlos Silva, advised the concessionaire of Arturo Merino Benítez Airport in Santiago and its shareholders Vinci, Aéroport de Paris and Astaldi, in obtaining approximately a US $ 500 million financing for the construction of a new terminal, by a syndicate of foreign and local banks, which includes, among others, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Société Générale, Banco Santander, Banca IMI, Caixabank, BCI y BICE.

“Latin America Solar Deal of the Year”: “El Pelícano” Solar Plant 

Morales & Besa, led by partner Myriam Barahona, advised lenders, including among others, Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, LTD., Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Korea Development Bank and BCI, in the financing for more than US $ 200 million granted to a subsidiary of Total SunPower for the construction of “El Pelícano” solar project,  with an installed capacity of 100 MW which will supply the Santiago´s Metro.

“Latin America Wind Deal of the Year”: “Cabo Leones” Wind Farm

Morales & Besa, led by partner José Miguel Carvajal, advised lenders, Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and DNB Bank ASA, in the financing of more than US $ 138 million for the construction of the project and for the letters of credit of “Cabo Leones” wind farm, owned by Ibereólica and EDF, with an installed capacity of 115.5 MW, located in the Atacama Region.
