Morales & Besa appoints Santiago Martinez as partner of its tax area.
Santiago Martínez, a lawyer from Universidad de los Andes and LL.M. from The University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, has taken over as partner in charge of the tax area of Morales & Besa.
Santiago has an outstanding track record advising national and international clients on tax matters related to M&A transactions, corporate restructurings and investments in Chile, among others. He also has experience representing clients before Municipalities, the Chilean Internal Revenue Service and Tax and Customs Courts.
He joined Morales & Besa in 2020 and previously worked as an international associate in Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton’s tax group in its London office.
The appointment of Santiago Martínez as leader of the tax practice comes to reinforce the permanent advice to the firm’s clients, as well as the transactional practices of Morales & Besa, a law firm that is characterized by covering all areas of law relevant to business, with a strong focus on highly complex matters. In addition, the new appointment comes at a strategic moment in view of an upcoming reform in our country, which makes tax advice a necessity for the broad and diversified client portfolio of Morales & Besa, composed of both domestic and foreign companies operating in the most diverse industries and sectors.
“The tax area is essential to be able to provide comprehensive advice to our clients, and therefore I take on this challenge with great responsibility and enthusiasm. Through the tax team we seek to continue expanding and deepening the advice we provide to clients in times when important changes are coming in the country in this area,” says Santiago Martínez.
Regarding the appointment of the new tax partner, the managing partner of Morales & Besa, Macarena Laso, noted that “this reflects how important this practice has been for our clients and especially considering the great challenges that lie ahead in the context of the tax reform already announced. Santiago is a professional of high prestige and recognized among clients for his quality of work, always providing excellent and timely advice”.
In view of these important appointments, one of the founding partners of the firm, Eugenio Besa, indicates that they are signs of the important growth they have had thanks to the team of excellence and professionals that make up the firm: “We are very proud of the trust and loyalty that clients have shown towards our Firm, as it allows us to continue growing and covering increasingly relevant areas. We are sure that the experience, business vision, industry knowledge and leadership of our new partners will deepen the comprehensive advice to high prestige clients, favoring the growth of their respective areas of expertise”.
